Shutter Love Tuesday

The theme this week is 'Mother's Love'

Ollie was 5 months when this photo was taken.  I love this photo because of the expression on his face!! He has massive wide eyes and a slight grin.  He is holding onto my neck and pulling me in for that kiss!

On the phone to Grandma :)

Tonight before bed, Ollie had his first ever phone CONVERSATION!  The person lucky enough to be on the other end was his Grandma.

Ollie: Hello Grandma
Grandma:  Hello Ollie!
Ollie: How are you (he said this perfectly after prompting from me on what to say, he never ever said this before!)
Grandma:  I'm fine Ollie, how are you?!
Ollie: Okay (after more prompting)
Grandma: Are you being a good boy?
Ollie: Yes (more prompting... he has never said yes before... I have to look at him when I ask a question because he only nods!)
Ollie: Love you Grandma (came out as "luffu aama")
Grandma: (sounding super happy) I love you too Ollie
Ollie: Night night Grandma bye bye (he says night night in a whisper every single time!)

I think my mum's heart melted just like mine did a few days ago when he said "love you" for the first time to me.

His speech is coming on SO FAST, that I can't believe it.  I remember wondering a few weeks back, when they start to say small sentences and put words together.  I bet you he will be able to have a full UNPROMPTED conversation by the time he turns 2 in less than 4 weeks!

Mmmmm yummy!

Ollie learnt how to do this yesterday!  He is LOVING his Thomas the Tank yoghurt, rubbing his tummy and saying "Mmmmm".

Heart Melter!

Ollie just said "love you" as I was leaving his room so he could nap!

Future Children's Names

As you all know, my gorgeous son is called Oliver but he gets called Ollie for short (and because, personally I think it is cuter).  His full name is actually Oliver Charlie James Hughes.

Oliver - Love love love the name and it was the first name we sort of stuck with.  Before choosing it we had a few names we loved but grew bored of.  I also love how we can call him Ollie and have Ollie be his name, but he can refer to himself as either when he is older.  The name Ollie/ Oliver translates well into manhood :)

Charlie - I adore the name Charlie, but hubby wouldn't let me use it as a first name.  It became Ollie's second name as a compromise.

James - James is my husband's name.  I really wanted Ollie to have James name somewhere... I just think it is really nice and really special.

If Ollie had been a girl we were thinking of names like (I had to check his baby book because I can't remember the names we had in mind if he was a girl!): Emily, Summer, Ella and Daisy.

In our future, when we have more children... I already have names in my head and I can't imagine calling future children anything else!

If we have another boy I would like to call him Henry.  I am not sure why, but this name sticks in my head and I can't shake it.  The name is just always there when I think about boys names.  I think Henry also goes well with Oliver.  I have no idea where I got the name idea from though.

If we have a little girl I would like to call her Penny!  Again, this name sticks in my head.  I have thought about this name so much, that I can not imagine calling a little girl anything else.  We may use one or two of our previous girls name ideas as middle names.  My middle name is Lee so we may include that.

So there you go.... Ollie (Charlie James) Hughes and one day we may also have a Henry Hughes or a Penny Hughes!

p.s. I actually LOVE the girl's name Holly.... but since we call Oliver, Ollie.... it would get a bit confusing!

Potty training put on PAUSE!

For just a couple of weeks.  We gave it a go for more or less 3 days straight and it just wasn't happening.  In 2 1/2 days there had been numeous sits on the potty, but only one wee in there.  All the other wees of the day had been done on my floor... nothing seemed to clicked.  So were stopping and were going to try again in a fortnights time.  I think we may continue to have bare bottom time before bed and encourage him to sit on the potty for a few minutes just before bed to get him used to the idea of weeing in there.  He does understand that with no nappy on, that he should not pee on the floor, but he can't help it.  He gets upset and says "uh oh wee wee".

I dislike potty training already....and we haven't even truly begun!!

Our trip to Scotland

I had a very emotionally hard weekend, but we also had a really lovely weekend.

As soon as we arrived on Friday night (at 11.00pm), we found out that Granny and my aunts and uncles were at a pub called The Cobbles. We were so so tired but wanted to go and see Granny. Granny and Grandad went to The Cobbles EVERY Friday because it was folk night.... almost EVERYONE was playing an instrument or singing and in my hour there, so many folk night regulars came to offer their sympathies to my Gran and to give her a hug. They all knew my grandad well and had spent the night playing a couple of his favourite songs (Waltzing Matilda etc).  I really hope she continues to go and see all their friends.... The Cobbles was such an important part of their life together.  I was so pleased to see my Granny and hug her tight and know that she is going to be OK.

The service on Saturday was so perfect and sometimes funny too because that's the type of man my Grandad was.  he really was great, and he would have LOVED the service. Some very old friends were able to make it all the way there for him and some people found it harder than others to get there but still made it.... my cousin came from Afghanistan where he is currently serving.... he spent 6 days and nights in an airport waiting for a flight to get home. He made it home finally on time to be able to carry my Grandad's coffin.  I learnt a lot about my Grandad that I didn't know before.

There was a big barbecue at my Uncle's house after a buffet at The Cobbles.  The house was packed.  It was nice to all be together. On Sunday we had a family group photo taken of Granny, her 5 children (my aunts and uncles), her 14 grandchildren and her one and only great grandchild (Ollie). It's an amazing legacy to leave behind..... 20 descendants....

Ollie was amazing and hardly complained about anything. He didn't whinge during the 2 hour boat journey and then 4 hour drive there and the same on the way back. He didn't complain about sleeping on an airbed on the floor.... he made so many people smile and he got to know my Granny better (she has been nicknamed Gigi as in G. G.  because Great Grandmother is a bit of a mouthful for Ollie).  I'm glad I brought him with me and I'm glad James was able to take the Friday off work so he could come with us (and looked after Ollie when he got rowdy during the service!)

When we were all little, my grandad used to make up funny games that had no rules.... no rules that anyone knew anyway!! One of them was called hop-it and buzz-off.... he used to put us to bed and would then play a peekaboo type game with the duvet, but i think the aim was to see who could say hop-it or buzz-off first... like i say it had no real rules so I'm not sure what the aim really is...

On Monday night Ollie and i played hop-it and buzz-off for the very first time. He laughed so much i was sure he wasn't going to go to sleep but i didn't care. He laughed so much his eyes went watery.... it was so funny because I taught him the words hop-it and buzz-off and he can say them nearly perfectly.  We have played it each night since (and Ollie gets to sleep fine).  It feels good to carry on his tradition.

I was so sad to leave everyone again. It is still surreal that he is gone but I know he would have loved the send-off.

Talking PMM and Potty Training

We are back from Scotland, and I will write a Scotland post later tonight.

I wanted to tell you about the proud mummy moment we had last night.... Ollie's first sentence!  I bought him a little set of 5 Hot Wheels cars on the ferry back and last night James gave him the little jeep and asked him to say thank you.  Ollie then said "Thangu for da jeep".  So proud.

AND today we have started potty training.  We have had one dribble in the potty so far and one pair of wet pants.... but all in all not too bad!  I'm scared to take him outside the house though... I'm feeling a bit clueless about this potty training thing!  Any advice would be VERY much appreciated.
