Aw Ollie....

Yesterday we bought Ollie a new train.  He collects the Thomas and Friends Take and Play range and has about 8 of them.  Yesterday he chose a train called Diesel.  When we came home he started playing with Diesel and all of his other trains, but he kept saying "Sorry....". I asked him what was wrong and what he was saying sorry for and he pointed at Diesel and said "Diesel cross face"....

My poor iPhone!

My poor little iPhone went for a swim in our toilet today courtesy of a certain two year old that lives here.  I was so upset!  I thought for sure it was broken, never to be fixed.  I had the number ready to ring on Monday morning of our insurance company, hoping it would be covered!  I was even figuring out in my head, some things I could sell to buy a new one, if it was not covered by insurance!

Luckily we didn't get that far... James took my phone and stuck it in a bowl of rice.  Who would have thought that would work.... but it did :)

I am still saving up to get the iPhone 4... though I am no longer in a rush!

Cheers!

This morning as I was sitting down to drink my cup of coffee, Ollie came straight over and started clunking his beaker against my mug... he was clunking and saying what sounded like "cheeas!"....It took me a couple of seconds to realise he was saying "CHEERS".  It was so cute.  I'm not sure where he picked it up but he (and I) thought it was hilarious!

He has also learnt what a joke is!  He says things like "brekkie (breakfast)" while pointing at the ceiling, and then will say "noooooooo" and then burst out laughing.  When I ask him if he is joking he says "yeeep".  Another joke he has is pointing at anyone and calling them daddy (then saying "noooooo").

Ollie is definitely hilarious!

Time For You - Week 1

My good bloggy friend Jia at Color Me UnTypical (and her friend The Girly Tomboy) have started a brand new weekly blog-hop called 'Time For You'.  The idea of this blog-hop is to take a little bit of time out and post about the steps you are taking to get healthy and better yourself!

This week, I want to tell you what I want to do to better myself while we are taking time off from trying for a baby.  If you did not see the post, we had been trying for a baby for 9 months after having a miscarriage in November of last year.  We decided this month that I should go back on the pill, so that we can have a PROPER, real break from it all until further notice!  The disappointment and worry month after month was not doing me any good and since starting the pill again, I have felt a load has been lifted!

While we are not trying here are some of the things I want to do before we start trying again.  I will update on my progress on these goals each week!

GOAL 1: Get into a good habit of taking vitamins and folic acid.  I was taking a mum-to-be vitamin until very recently.  I figured that after the miscarriage as we were trying again from then, I should just keep taking it.  After the months passed, I got less enthusiastic about taking them everyday, and plain just forgot!

GOAL 2: Lose a little bit of weight.  I don't mean loads... just enough to feel happy and slim again.  I lost some weight back in April, but have since put it all back on!

GOAL 3: Cut down on Coke!  This one will be hard.  I remember giving up before and I did so well... but then I crumbled.... Oh lovely Coke.  There is half of a 2 litre bottle left in the fridge and then I aim to cut down.

GOAL 4: Take part in more activity.  I go to Aqua-aerobics most Monday mornings and really enjoy it... I plan to start pilates this Tuesday and I am trying to find a yoga class.  I enquired at the gym beside my house and found their prices incredibly reasonable so I think I may even be brave enough to join.  The membership includes all classes and 5 personal trainer sessions!

I'm gonna leave it there!  I don't want to give myself too many goals to start with!  Hope you join in this great blog hop also :)

Ollie Update!

I was reading 'What to Expect - The Toddler Years' this morning and realised just how amazing my little man is (I already knew he was amazing... but it puts it in perspective!!). By the way... it is a great book with a section each month divided into 'by the end of this month your toddler.... should be able to', '....will probably be able to' and '...may possibly be able to'.

He is currently 26 months old and quite advanced with regards to the book!

Between 25 and 27 months he has ALL of the should be able's and may be able's:

More than 50 single words (he has A LOT more...he knows the words for things I didn't even know he knew!).

Combine words (he can string a sentence of up to about 6 words!).

Follow a 2 step command without gestures.

On top of the things from 'should be able' he can jump now (still working on that but he can do it properly if he tries!), brush his teeth (I still give them a scrub after too!), build a tower of 8 or more cubes, carry on a conversation in sentences, identify his friends by names!  The only things he can't really do yet are use his prepositions (a bit hit and miss!) and put on a tshirt by himself!

I skipped ahead to the next chapter - 28 to 30 months.

As well as the above he should be able to name 6 body parts (he actually knows them ALL.... right down to nipples!), balance on each foot for 1 second (check!) may even be able to use 2 adjectives (he has quite a lot of adjectives actually... wet, hot, scary, fluffy, fast).

I'm so proud of him.... he is doing so well and although the tantrums are hard and upsetting, at least we know he is all on track developmentally.  He is becoming quite good at using his manners and will say thank you completely unprompted most of the time.

We will be looking at schools this December, to apply to in January.  He will be starting next September!!  So soon!  We will have to make proper moves on potty training in the next few months.

I am taking Ollie for his first proper dentist appointment today!  Let's hope he will let her have a look!

Holidays, Holidays... here we come!

We are so excited, because in a couple of weeks, James is taking a week and a half off work.  We have a couple of plans.... were going to a brand new park in Lisburn that has a big sand-pit and ride-on diggers and tractors!  We will also be going on our first family camping trip!  Ollie loves making playing under a tent made out of a duvet... he requests that James make one for him almost daily!  We just bought a brand new tent that is a lot bigger than our previous one, and Ollie and I will share a double air mattress!

James, Ollie and I will also be going on holiday to London sometime in October for 4 or 5 days!  James had racked up quite a lot of holidays recently by working overtime and then found out that you can actually sell up to 5 holidays back in his work.  He sold 5 days of holiday and will have enough to pay for a small trip to London!  The last time Ollie was on an airplane was when he was 3 months old.  Since then he has become seriously interested in planes (and helicopters and boats and trucks............) so were looking forward to the flight!

Our last holiday was to Scotland to see my grandparents, when Ollie was 3 months old.... so our camping trip and trip to London are long awaited and well deserved!

Tantrums... Oh Boy

Tantrums have started for real in our house.  I thought I was going to escape the tantrum phase because we had not yet experienced it, but it has been going on for 3 days now.

Oh my goodness, can my boy SCREAM!

He will tantrum over something so silly as what to have for breakfast, if you look at him and he doesn't want you to, or if he has to share ANY of his toys... even the ones he is not playing with.

We had our first public tantrum just a couple of days ago... it was horrendous.  I was mortified.  It was pay day and he had been being so good so I told him he could have a treat.  I found a shelf that had diggers and cars and he chose a digger.  When we paid for the digger however, he started screaming for the car and when I told him "No!", he lay on the floor and went crazy!  There were a few women standing by and they didn't give me the sympathetic glances I craved, but instead looked at me as if I was a bad mum.  Ollie was making himself look so spoilt, when he definitely is not.  When I tried to pick him up to put him in his pram, he struggled and kicked to get away from me.  I was MORTIFIED.

What are you supposed to do in this situation... normally I would walk away when he tantrums at home and I would ignore him, but you can't do that when your in a busy shop.  I tried telling him that I didn't like his behaviour and that he was being very silly, but nothing worked.

That night at home, Ollie showed James just what he was made of, by tantruming to the best of his ability!  I think James was a little taken aback.

I really thought we were going to be lucky enough to escape the tantrums... but the phase has arrived and it's breaking my heart to see him so frustrated and upset sometimes.

Here#s hoping it does not last too long.
