Poop...

Is taking his nappy off and pooping on the floor a sign that he is ready to try potty training again?

Yesterday when I left Ollie up for his nap, I heard him walking about just 5 minutes later.  I went to check what was wrong and his nappy was lying on the floor and his bed was soaked.

This morning, he took his nappy off and pooped on the floor where he was playing.  I didn't notice until it was too late.  Luckily it was easy to clean up.

The straw that broke the camels back was lunchtime today when I went to prepare lunch, only to hear Ollie shouting "poo poo on a foot"... I dandered out to see the boy with poo squashed all over his foot and leg and I asked him to show me where the poop was to which he replied "mummy cross... naughty step".  He showed me to the stairs.  What I saw before me was every single stair smeared with poop.  I carefully climbed the stairs to find where it started.  There was a little poop with a toy sitting on top of it (I assume to hide it?) and poop foot prints leading away from it.

Our carpet used to be cream coloured.

Luckily we have booked a carpet cleaner to come and steam clean all our carpets for us on 5th October.

I am wondering if this messiness is Ollie showing signs he no longer wants to wear a nappy, and wants to potty train again, and if so, I have 2 weeks until the carpet cleaner comes!

Thoughts please :)

  1. I say go for it, I am training my 2 year old right now. We have been at it for a month and she is now pooping in the pot. I had issues with her pooping in the floor also before we started training. There is a book called "diaper free before 3" which could help, I read it and wish I had it when she was 6months old.
    Best of luck!!

  3. I think he might be ready to use the potty too... We use to keep the potty in whatever room we were in to make sure that it ws always in sight! lol

  6. Oh, I empathize with you. My little guy (who's two) isn't ready to potty train yet, but I can already imagine the difficulty. Oh, and our cream colored carpet defintely needs to be..um...replaced when he gets older. We tried shampooing, but some of the stains have chosen to stay with us. Good grief!

  7. this post was funny in that omg that is terrifying kind of way - my little guy is 22 months and we haven't seriously embarked on toilet training yet so I have no advice but am so hoping we don't have any 'hilarious' poop incidents when we do. It does sound like Ollie's wanting to toilet train...

  11. I just happened upon your blog- gotta love poop stories ;) unfortunately I have way too much experience with that after potty-training 3 boys. I definitely say go for it while you have the time- before the carpet is cleaned, cause potty-training tends to be a bit messy =)

  13. My three were all finally trained by the time they were 2 1/2. I figured it would happen when it happened. My daughter now has a 9 month old. The books she's reading are onto a new theme: the theory is, ever since the invention and constant betterment of Pamper disposables, American toddlers are taking longer and longer to move on to toileting. They never feel wet with all the new high-tech diapers.

Recently my 9 month old grandson has been performing bodily functions on his Baby Born potty 3 and 4 times a day. I would say Mummy is the one getting trained here, but according to MY mother and her mother before her, their children were all trained by at least one year!!!! According to Mum, I was trained by 11 months. Grandbaby first sat on his potty, fully clothed for about 2 weeks every time Mummy or Daddy had to go. Two weeks ago, he has been sitting their naked after every nap and after meals. Go figure.

When you see You Tube videos of 6 year olds doing amazing gymnastics and ballroom dancing, far beyond their years, it isn't too hard to make the leap and think anything is possible.

If your son is taking already, climbing stairs, and dealing with his diaper in his own way, I would guess he's ready to be a "big boy and use the potty".

Just my thoughts, and you did ask.:)

  14. I would put him on the potty several times a day, and when he goes give him a reward. I've potty trained four - three girls and one son. My son was the most difficult by far. He was always too busy to remember to go to the bathroom. Sorry to hear about your carpet...

    Great story!
